FAQ

Web Design FAQ for Small Business Owners

These are the questions owners ask me before a website project: what I need from you, how changes work, what you sign and who does the work. Simple 4 to 6 page sites run $1,200 to $2,500 and take about 3 to 4 weeks. Every price is on the pricing page.

FAQ

Before you hire me for a website

Who registers my domain name?

You do, in your name, so you always own it. It usually costs $12 to $20 a year, paid straight to the registrar. If you don't have one yet, I'll walk you through buying it on a short call and connect it to the site.

What if I need to stop a project halfway?

You pay for the work done up to that point, and the first payment covers the start of the build. Anything I've finished and you've paid for is yours to keep.

How many rounds of changes do I get?

Two rounds of revisions are included in every build. You review the site on a private staging site, send me your changes, I make them, and then you get one more round. Sending each round as one list keeps the project moving. If you want more changes after that, I tell you the price before I do them.

What do I need to have ready before the project starts?

Your logo, a list of the services you want more of, the towns you cover, and your license and insurance details if your trade needs them. Real photos of your jobs, trucks and crew help more than anything else. You don't need finished copy: a short description of each service is enough to start. The faster I get photos, copy and feedback, the closer the project stays to the 3 to 4 week timeline.

Who will I actually be working with?

Me. I'm Dat, and I design, build and launch every site myself, so there's no account manager passing messages along. You email or call me directly, and I reply within one US business day. The person who quotes your project is the person who builds it.

Where are you based?

I'm a digital nomad from Dallas, so on any given week I might be working from Dallas, somewhere in Europe or anywhere else. The work is remote: projects run on video calls and a shared project board, so where you are doesn't change anything. If you'd like to meet in person, we can plan and schedule it ahead.

How many pages should my first website have?

Usually 4 to 6 to start: a homepage, a page for each core service you want more of, an about page and a contact page. That's the $1,200 to $2,500 range. If you cover several towns or offer a long list of services, you'll want service area pages too, which moves you into the larger site range of $2,500 to $4,500. You can also start small and add pages later for $250 to $450 each.

Can you use the photos I took on my phone?

Yes, and I'd usually rather have them. Real photos of your jobs, your truck and your crew build more trust than stock photos of people who don't work for you. I crop and compress them so pages stay fast on a phone. Send what you have and I'll tell you which ones work.

Can the site match my trucks and business cards?

Yes. I build around the logo, colors and fonts you already use, so the site looks like the same company a customer sees in their driveway. Send me your logo file plus a photo of your truck wrap or business card. That's enough to work from.

Do I get a written agreement?

Yes. Every project runs on a written service agreement, signed before any work starts. It covers the 30/40/30 payment schedule, who owns the site and how I can show it in my portfolio. You get the fixed quote before that, so the number in the agreement is the number you already agreed to.

Will my site show up in your portfolio?

It might, unless you'd rather it didn't. My service agreement lets me show the finished site in my portfolio, and you can opt out. Either way, once the final payment is made, the site and its content are yours. You can see how other projects are shown on my portfolio page.

Can I see websites you've built for other businesses?

Yes. My portfolio has real client projects, like Bus24, which saw 300% growth in organic traffic after the redesign, and Sonder Services, with organic traffic up 260% off a low base. Not every project is a trade business, so some of what you'll see are real results from other industries. I'll tell you which ones are closest to what you need.

Do you only build websites for home service businesses?

No, but trades and home services are most of what I do. I also build sites for tour operators, transport companies and consultants, plus Shopify stores. The industries page lists them all.

Do I have to sort out hosting before the build starts?

No. I build your site on a private staging site first, so you don't need hosting until launch. At launch you can put it on my Hosting plan for $39 a month, pick a full care plan, or use hosting you pay for yourself. If you already have hosting, tell me and I'll check it before you decide.
