Local SEO in Texas

I do local SEO for Texas service businesses, mostly across DFW. Here the map pack is split between a patchwork of suburbs, and paid Local Services Ads often sit above it. Below are the nine cities I have local SEO pages for, and what is different about ranking in North Texas.

Each page covers that city's ZIPs, how its map results behave and what I would build first. Start with the one closest to where your business is based.

What is different about local search in DFW

Three things I plan around for every North Texas business.

01
8.95M

people in the 16-county North Central Texas region

NCTCOG's estimate for January 1, 2026, up 203,786 in a single year. Every new subdivision is a new batch of "near me" searches from people who don't have a plumber yet.

02

Suburbs, not one city

Distance is one of Google's three local factors, so a search in Frisco mostly shows businesses near Frisco. A company based in Mesquite won't hold the McKinney map just by adding McKinney to its profile. Pages for the cities near your base come first.

03

Local Services Ads sit on top

Google shows its paid Local Services unit "prominently" in results, and for trades like plumbing, electrical and HVAC it checks a state-level license. In Texas that is your TSBPE or TDLR license, so the number on your ads, profile and site should match.

Local Services Ads are paid per lead and stop when you stop paying. Local SEO is the part that keeps working, and I set it up so your profile and pages are ready if you run both.

FAQ

Common questions

Which DFW cities should I target first?

The ones closest to where your business is based, then the ones where you already have jobs and reviews. Distance is one of the three things Google uses for local results, so a city 40 minutes away is a long shot for the map even with a great page. Three strong city pages near you beat nine thin ones.

Does Google check my Texas trade license?

For Local Services Ads, yes. Google lists a state-level license check for trades like plumbing, electrical and HVAC, and adds extra screening for urgent trades. In Texas that means your TSBPE or TDLR license. I put the same number on your Business Profile and website, so what customers see matches what Google checked.
